How we review

Our method: which sources we use, how we weigh them and how our star ratings work.

In short

Every review on Simple Life Reviews is a structured summary of public evidence: what independent testers, experts and real owners have published, weighed and written up in plain language with links to every source it relies on.

Reviews are researched and drafted with AI assistance from publicly available tests and owner reports, then run through automated fact and source checks and an editorial pass. Nobody tests the products hands-on.

1. Choosing what to review

We pick brands and products people are actively searching for and buying, based on search interest and retailer bestseller lists. Popularity decides what we look at, never what we conclude.

2. Gathering sources

For each review we collect:

  • Independent tests and expert reviews from established publications and specialist reviewers.
  • Owner reports from forums, Reddit, retailer reviews and consumer review platforms, especially long-term experiences and complaints.
  • Brand information such as prices, specifications, warranties and return policies, used to check facts rather than to set the tone.
  • Recent news, for example recalls, price changes or new product lines.

3. Weighing the evidence

Not all sources are equal. We give more weight to sources that describe how they tested, to experiences reported by many owners rather than one, and to recent information over old. Marketing claims are only repeated when an independent source backs them up.

4. Writing and checking the review

A first draft is written with AI assistance from the collected sources only. It explains who a product suits and who should skip it, lists real pros and cons, and answers the questions buyers actually ask. Before publication, automated checks flag any figure, price or test result without a source link in the same sentence and compare the draft against the sources; drafts that fail are revised, and an editorial pass follows. Any figure, price or test result links to its source. Reviews never invent personal experiences: we don't test products hands-on, and each finding says where it comes from.

5. Our star ratings

Ratings run from 1 to 5 stars in half-star steps. They are our editorial assessment of the cited evidence, considering:

  • how consistently independent testers rate the product;
  • how owners rate it over time, and how common and serious the reported problems are;
  • value for money compared with similar alternatives;
  • where the sources cover them, the brand's warranty, returns and customer service.

We do not publish aggregate user ratings, and brands cannot buy or influence a rating.

6. Dates

Products change, and so does the evidence. Every review shows the date it was last updated; we aim to revisit reviews when important new tests, recalls or price changes come to our attention, and you can always tell us about something we missed.
