Nossa avaliação

One of the most polished retail forex and CFD platforms, free through brokers with strong charting and automation, held back by limited broker availability.

Como avaliamos cada produto

cTrader is a trading platform for forex and CFDs built by Spotware Systems, and the first thing to know is that it is not a broker: you reach it through a licensed broker or prop firm, and that company sets your spreads, commissions and account rules. This cTrader review covers what the platform does well, what it costs, how safe it is, where it falls short against MetaTrader, and who should pick it. The short version: it is one of the most polished retail trading platforms available, held back mainly by how few brokers offer it.

Risk note: forex and CFD trading uses leverage and can lose you more than you expect. This review describes software, not an investment recommendation, and nothing here is personal financial advice.

Our verdict in brief

Pick cTrader if you trade forex or CFDs actively, care about seeing market depth and exactly how each order was filled, or want to automate strategies in C# or Python without renting a server. It is also a strong choice for prop-firm traders, since its store doubles as a directory of funded-account challenges. Look elsewhere if your preferred broker does not offer it, if you trade exchange-listed futures, or if you depend on the huge library of MetaTrader add-ons.

How we researched this review

We read six independent reviews of cTrader, from forex specialists such as DailyForex and Traders Union to prop-trading and general review sites, and checked the cTrader website for how it presents copy trading and the store. We did not place trades on the platform ourselves, so every claim about execution or usability is attributed to the review that reports it. Several of these sites earn affiliate commissions, which we note where it matters.

What cTrader is and what it does

cTrader

DailyForex describes cTrader as a platform from Cyprus-based Spotware Systems that launched in 2011 with FXPro as its first broker, now used by 8M+ traders and backed by 150+ in-house developers. Figures vary by source and date: PropFirmApp counts 11 million active traders and more than 300 broker and prop firm clients, so treat headline user counts as approximate.

The platform was designed around ECN-style execution rather than market-maker dealing, which reviewers link to its focus on transparent fills. Its main building blocks are:

  • Trading and order tools. Level II depth of market, one-click trading, advanced stop-loss and take-profit controls, and a detailed receipt for every deal showing prices and timing.
  • Charting. A large indicator library, several chart types including Renko, range and Heikin Ashi, detachable windows for multi-monitor setups, and workspaces synced across devices.
  • cTrader Algo. Build trading robots, called cBots, and custom indicators, then run them in the cloud so they keep working when your computer is off.
  • cTrader Copy. Follow strategies from other traders automatically, or publish your own for others to copy.
  • cTrader Store. A marketplace of third-party cBots, indicators and plugins, plus a directory of prop-firm challenges.

Traders Union lists apps for Windows, Mac, web, iOS and Android in 23 languages, 86 built-in indicators, 8 chart types and 4 order types, from market orders to stop-limit, and says cBots can be written in C# or Python. It also says execution runs on Equinix servers in both New York and London.

Charting and automation in practice

Charting depth is the point most reviewers praise first. WorthEBuck highlights 54 timeframes including tick, Renko and range bars, and says free cloud hosting for cBots spares algo traders the $10-30/month VPS rental common elsewhere. Some figures differ between sources because they count timeframes and indicators differently, but every review agrees the toolset is unusually complete out of the box.

The algo layer is where cTrader separates itself from older platforms. PropFirmApp counts 905 cBots, 69 plugins and 1,378 indicators in the store, sold by roughly 300 active sellers. Sellers pass identity checks through Sumsub, and Nuvei handles a 14-day money-back guarantee on purchases. Using real programming languages rather than a platform-specific script also means the skills carry over to other work.

Copy trading and the store

Copy trading is built in rather than bolted on. Traders Union explains that each strategy page shows its full performance history and live positions, and that a listed strategy needs a deal in the past 72 hours and must not have lost more than 90% all-time (its ROI has to stay above -90%). That last threshold shows how low the bar is: a listing is not an endorsement.

Be careful with the headline numbers on the cTrader site itself, where some copy strategies display returns in the thousands of percent over a few months. The site's own disclaimer warns that copy trading carries significant risk, that strategies come from third parties, and that availability depends on your broker and jurisdiction. Short track records with extreme returns usually mean extreme risk.

Pricing

cTrader itself costs nothing to use. You pay through your trading account instead, so the real costs are the spreads, commissions and any account fees set by the broker or prop firm you choose.

PlanPrice per monthLimitsFree tier

A few extra costs are optional. Third-party cBots, indicators and plugins in the cTrader Store are priced by their sellers, and prop-firm challenges are priced by each firm, often with cTrader-specific promotions. On the trading side, Chweya notes that many brokers pair cTrader with ECN or raw-spread accounts, which usually means tighter spreads plus a separate commission, so compare the all-in cost per trade rather than the spread alone.

Prop traders get one more tool at no charge. Traders Union reports more than 500 active challenges from 40+ prop firms in the store, filterable by account size, profit target and drawdown limits, and says many challenges carry discounts of up to 40%. Challenge fees are still real money, and most traders who buy them do not pass.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • Free to use, with costs set by your broker
  • Level II market depth and a receipt for every fill
  • Deep charting and a clean, modern interface
  • cBots in C# or Python with free cloud hosting
  • Built-in copy trading and a store with identity-verified sellers
  • Apps for Windows, Mac, web, iOS and Android with synced workspaces

Cons:

  • Far fewer brokers offer it than MetaTrader
  • Forex and CFDs only, with no exchange-traded futures
  • Smaller add-on marketplace than MetaTrader's
  • Copy strategy listings include very high-risk records
  • Your real costs and protections depend entirely on the broker

Security & data

Is cTrader safe to use? The platform has a good record, but your money sits with the broker, so the broker's regulation matters more than the software. Traders Union says cTrader works only with regulated brokers, follows a Traders First principle against practices like price injection and stop-loss hunting, and has never been pulled from an app store. DailyForex adds that accounts are protected with one-time passwords and two-factor authentication.

What the sources do not cover is how Spotware stores or shares your personal data, so read the privacy terms on the cTrader site and your broker's own policy. Before funding an account, check the broker's licence directly on the regulator's register, turn on two-factor authentication, and never give your login details to a signal seller or copy-trading provider.

Who it's for

cTrader is a strong fit for:

  • Scalpers and day traders who want market depth, fast order entry and a clear record of every fill.
  • Algo traders who prefer C# or Python and want strategies running in the cloud without a VPS.
  • Prop-firm traders who want to compare challenges and run several accounts under one login.
  • Manual traders leaving MetaTrader who want a more modern interface.

It is a weaker fit for buy-and-hold investors, who will find it more than they need, for futures traders, and for anyone whose broker does not offer it. Beginners can learn it, and CoinSpot calls the interface organized and easy to navigate, but it notes the deeper toolset takes time, and a demo account is the right place to start.

If you are comparing finance apps for everyday money rather than trading, our Beforepay review covers a very different kind of product.

Alternatives

MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 are the obvious comparison, and the choice usually comes down to reach versus refinement. Traders Union counts 30 built-in indicators on MT4 and 38 on MT5 against cTrader's 86, with MetaTrader custom tools limited to MQL4 or MQL5. WorthEBuck notes the trade-off: MetaTrader's 10,000+ Expert Advisors dwarf cTrader's 784 cBots.

PropFirmApp frames it simply: for a forex trader whose firm supports both, cTrader is the better platform, while MetaTrader wins on how many brokers, firms and third-party tools support it.

Our ratings

Overall: 4/5, because DailyForex and PropFirmApp find cTrader excellent on execution transparency, charting and free cloud automation, while limited broker availability and a smaller add-on ecosystem than MetaTrader hold it back.

cTrader: 4/5, since Traders Union confirms it is free through supported brokers with a deep feature set, but CoinSpot stresses that fewer brokers offer it than MetaTrader.

FAQ

Is cTrader free to use?

Yes. The platform is free to download and use through a broker or prop firm that offers it. You pay the broker's spreads and commissions on your trades, plus any optional store purchases or prop challenge fees.

Is cTrader legit?

Yes. It is a long-running platform from Spotware Systems, offered by regulated brokers and widely covered by independent forex reviewers. Legitimacy of the software does not guarantee your broker is safe, so check the broker's licence separately.

Where can you get cTrader?

Fewer than offer MetaTrader. The cTrader site and broker websites list current partners, and availability varies by country, so confirm that a broker offers cTrader for accounts in your region before you open one.

Can I use cTrader on a Mac?

Yes. Traders Union lists native apps for Windows and Mac alongside web, iOS and Android versions, all available in 23 languages.

Is cTrader better than MT4?

For many forex traders, yes on interface, market depth, built-in indicators and cloud automation. MetaTrader still wins on broker choice and the size of its add-on marketplace, so the better pick depends on which matters more to you.

Is cTrader suitable for beginners?

It can be. The interface is cleaner than older terminals, but the toolset is deep and leveraged trading is risky. Start on a demo account and learn position sizing and stop losses before trading real money.

How does cTrader make money?

Spotware licenses the platform to brokers and prop firms, which then offer it to traders free of charge. The cTrader Store also connects buyers with third-party sellers of cBots, indicators and plugins.
