Nossa avaliação

A deeply customisable multi-account email app with good store ratings, held back by subscription-only upgrades, notification complaints and Microsoft work-account friction.

Como avaliamos cada produto

Aqua Mail is a third-party email app, best known on Android and now also on iPhone, that puts several mail accounts into one heavily customisable inbox. It is made by MobiSystems, the company behind the MobiOffice suite. This Aqua Mail review covers what the app does well, what the free and Premium versions include, what it costs now that the old one-time Pro purchase has gone, how it handles your data, and which alternatives suit people it does not.

Our verdict in brief

Aqua Mail is a strong pick if you juggle several accounts on Android and like to fine-tune every detail: unified inbox, smart folder, swipe actions, widgets, signatures and Exchange calendar and contact sync. Its weak spots are a subscription model that has replaced the old one-time Pro licence, notifications that some users find unreliable, a dated interface, and new friction with Microsoft work accounts. Casual users with one Gmail address will be fine with a simpler, free app; power users who live in email should try the free version first.

How we researched this review

Simple Life Reviews did not use Aqua Mail ourselves for this review. We compared a review from Mailbird, a commercial email-client maker, a MyProsAndCons profile that says it was written with AI assistance, a Dueza review with older pricing, Apple App Store ratings and reviews, user reviews on SourceForge and TopBusinessSoftware, a Reddit thread comparing Aqua Mail with FairEmail, and Aqua Mail's own website and pricing page. Mailbird competes with Aqua Mail on desktop, and Dueza runs coupon links, so we weigh their opinions accordingly.

What Aqua Mail does

Aqua Mail

The Aqua Mail website describes an all-in-one email app that manages unlimited accounts from all major providers as well as IMAP and POP3 mailboxes. According to Dueza, it is developed by MobiSystems and supports Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail and Microsoft Exchange accounts.

Customisation is the headline. SourceForge lists more than 300 settings, Exchange contact and calendar sync, a rich text editor and a dark theme. Mailbird highlights the smart folder, swipe behaviour, text-size controls, signatures, widgets, PDF saving, backup and restore, and battery-saving options, and says these make Aqua Mail far more adjustable than a default mail app.

What has changed recently

Two changes matter if you read older reviews. First, Mailbird reports that Aqua Mail moved Microsoft work-account connections from Exchange Web Services to Microsoft Graph in August 2026, as Microsoft begins switching off EWS for Exchange Online. In practice, many work and school accounts now need approval from the organisation's administrator before sign-in works.

Second, Premium subscribers now sign in to an Aqua Mail account, which the company uses for licensing and moving between devices. The same Mailbird review notes that owners of the old one-time Pro licence keep their features, but signing in while not on Premium can leave the app running on a free licence instead.

The one-time Pro licence described in older reviews is no longer offered on the pricing page; new buyers choose between the free app and a subscription.

Pricing

These are the prices on the vendor's individual pricing page when we checked. The page does not make clear whether the per-month prices of Premium and Family are billed monthly or yearly, so we show them as the page does.

PlanPrice per monthLimitsFree tier
FreeFree (TopBusinessSoftware)Core multi-account email; many advanced features lockedYes
Premium$9.99 per month as shown (Aqua Mail pricing)Full feature set for one userNo
Family$1.99 per user per month as shown (Aqua Mail pricing)Premium features for a householdNo
Aqua Mail & MobiDrive$4.99 per month, or $59.88 a year (Aqua Mail pricing)Bundled with MobiSystems cloud storageNo
Aqua Mail & MobiOffice$4.49 per month, or $53.88 a year (Aqua Mail pricing)Bundled with the office suiteNo
Aqua Mail & MobiPDF$5.99 per month, or $71.88 a year (Aqua Mail pricing)Bundled with the PDF editorNo
Aqua Mail Ultimate Pack$9.19 per month, or $110.28 a year (Aqua Mail pricing)Bundle of MobiSystems appsNo

The yearly bundle prices work out to the monthly figures shown, so those per-month numbers appear to be yearly billing spread over twelve months.

Older reviews describe a different model. Dueza lists Pro as was $9.99 and Pro+ as was $19.99, both as one-time purchases, which you can no longer buy. MyProsAndCons says the Family plan is billed annually and that purchases carry a 30-day money-back guarantee; confirm both at checkout, as that page is AI-assisted. Prices bought inside the app come from Google Play or the App Store and may differ by country.

Security & data

Aqua Mail's key privacy claim is architectural. The Aqua Mail website says it is not a cloud-based email client and does not store your passwords or emails, so your mail travels between your phone and your provider rather than through Aqua Mail's servers. That is a meaningful difference from some free email apps that route mail through their own cloud.

MyProsAndCons mentions OAuth2 login for providers such as Gmail and Microsoft, which means you sign in through the provider rather than handing your password to the app. It also claims end-to-end encryption, which we could not confirm elsewhere; treat Aqua Mail's encryption support as standard secure connections plus optional signing and encryption features, and check the help pages for what your plan includes.

The new Premium sign-in creates an Aqua Mail account for licensing. If you want to keep things minimal, note that it is tied to Premium, and old Pro owners should avoid it. For work mail, your organisation's Microsoft account policies will decide whether Aqua Mail is allowed at all.

What users say

Ratings are generally good. On the App Store, the iPhone app scores 4.5 out of 5 from 290 ratings, and one reviewer says they have used Aqua Mail for 8 years. Complaints there include notifications not reaching an Apple Watch, Premium being too expensive, help files that describe features that no longer exist, a poor fit for business use on Microsoft's cloud mail, and folder groups appearing in an awkward order for people with many folders.

On Reddit, one Android user switched to FairEmail because Aqua Mail's notifications were inconsistent, while FairEmail's arrived quickly and reliably. A user on SourceForge praises its efficiency and lack of ads and says the only thing missing is a Windows app.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Very deep customisation for power users
  • Unified inbox for many accounts and protocols
  • Exchange calendar and contact sync
  • Mail is not stored in Aqua Mail's cloud, per the company
  • Free version available, and bundles with MobiSystems apps

Cons

  • Many useful features need a subscription
  • Old one-time Pro licence is no longer sold
  • Notifications can be inconsistent for some users
  • Microsoft work accounts may need admin approval
  • Interface looks dated next to newer apps; no Windows app

Who it's for

Aqua Mail suits Android users with several accounts who want control over every swipe, folder and notification, and Exchange users who need calendar and contacts on their phone. It also fits households who can share a Family plan.

It is less suited to people with a single Gmail or iCloud account, anyone who needs dependable instant notifications above all, and employees whose company restricts third-party mail apps. Those users are better off with the provider's own app.

Final verdict: is Aqua Mail worth it?

For heavy email users on Android, Aqua Mail remains one of the most configurable clients available, and the bundles make sense if you already use MobiSystems apps. The move to subscriptions, notification complaints and Microsoft work-account friction mean it is no longer the obvious buy it once was. Start with the free version, connect all your accounts, and only subscribe once it has proven reliable for your setup.

Our ratings

Overall: 3.5/5, because users on the App Store rate it well and reviewers praise its depth, while subscription-only upgrades, notification complaints and Microsoft work-account friction hold it back.

Aqua Mail: 3.5/5, because Mailbird confirms an unusually configurable multi-account inbox, but many features sit behind Premium and work-account setup has become harder.

FAQ

Is Aqua Mail safe to use?

Yes, for most people. The company says it does not store your emails or passwords in its own cloud, and it supports sign-in through your provider. Work users should check their company's policy first.

Is Aqua Mail legit?

Yes. It is a long-running app from MobiSystems with a large user base and good store ratings. Some users report billing and notification complaints, so try the free version before paying.

Is Aqua Mail free?

There is a free version with the core features. Advanced features need a Premium subscription or one of the bundles.

Can I still buy Aqua Mail Pro as a one-time purchase?

No. New buyers can choose the free version or a subscription. People who bought Pro in the past keep their features, but should not sign in to the new account system without Premium.

Does Aqua Mail work with Exchange and Office work accounts?

It supports Exchange, including calendar and contact sync. Microsoft work and school accounts now connect through Microsoft Graph, so your administrator may need to approve the app.

Why are my Aqua Mail notifications late?

Some users report inconsistent notifications. Check battery optimisation, notification permissions and sync settings, and on iPhone make sure Focus and Low Power Mode are not blocking alerts.

Is there an Aqua Mail app for Windows?

No. It is a mobile app for Android and iPhone; on desktop, use another email client.
