Retouch4me makes AI retouching tools for portrait, wedding and fashion photographers: separate plugins for jobs like healing skin, dodge and burn, eye whitening and backdrop cleanup, plus a cloud service that runs them all on pay-per-image credits. This Retouch4me review covers how the tools work, what reviewers liked and disliked, current plan prices and credits, data and privacy considerations, alternatives and who it suits. The short version: photographers consistently praise its natural, texture-preserving results and the time it saves, while the main drawbacks are cost, occasional crashes and slow local processing.

Retouch4me review: our verdict in brief

Retouch4me is a strong choice for working portrait, headshot, wedding and fashion photographers who retouch many images and want natural skin rather than the plastic look of many one-click apps. The cloud credits suit busy periods, and perpetual plugin licenses suit people who only need one or two tools. Hobbyists who edit a few portraits a month may find it expensive, and anyone who wants every adjustment on its own Photoshop layer may find it limiting.

How we researched this review

We read hands-on reviews from Digital Photography School, a fashion photographer (Jana Kukebal), a portrait studio's review of the Apex app (Tahquechi), a sponsored Fstoppers article, and two overviews from PrimeTechBlog and Honcho, plus Retouch4me's own site and pricing page. Fstoppers labels its article as sponsored, and several sites offer discount codes. This is a research-based review: we did not use the software ourselves, so every finding is credited to the photographer or site that reported it.

How Retouch4me works

Retouch4me Cloud Retouch

Retouch4me sells each effect as a separate tool: Fstoppers explains you can buy only the plugins you need or use a cloud credit system that runs any mix of plugins on an image for the same credit. The Retouch4me site lists integration with video editors Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve as well as Photoshop, Lightroom, Capture One and Affinity Photo, and offers free tools including an upscaler.

There are several ways to work. Honcho describes a browser web app, the lightweight Apex desktop app for cloud retouching, a Photoshop panel and Arams, a professional app that adds AI culling, grouping and filtering for large shoots. Tahquechi found Apex bundles the most popular tools in one interface, detects skin, eyes, clothing and background automatically, and processes in the cloud so it does not strain your computer.

What photographers report

Reviewers agree on the core strength: natural results. Digital Photography School tried Heal, Eye Vessels, Eye Brilliance, Portrait Volumes and Dodge & Burn and found them simple, with defaults that rarely needed correcting. Tahquechi praised Apex for keeping skin texture while removing blemishes, calling skin, eye and teeth edits subtle enough that clients do not look airbrushed.

The complaints are practical. Digital Photography School hit an installation hiccup, a few crashes and an interface it found a little clunky. Jana Kukebal, a fashion photographer, loved Backdrop Cleaner and Dust Cleaner but was not impressed by Skin Tone, and found a detailed image could take at least a minute to process locally on a MacBook Pro. Tahquechi wished Apex could place edits on separate layers and notes that cloud processing slows down on a weak connection.

Pricing

Retouch4me offers cloud subscriptions, prepaid credit packs and perpetual plugin licenses. Current subscription prices on its pricing page:

Generation Packs$14.08/mo (Retouch4me pricing)Billed yearlyEntry credit allowanceNone stated

Business$90/mo (Retouch4me pricing)MonthlyHighest credit allowanceNone stated
Business$63.25/mo (Retouch4me pricing)Billed yearlyHighest credit allowanceNone stated

Honcho lists the monthly tiers as 200 retouches for $20, 500 for $35 and 1,500 for $90, says unused credits roll over for up to five months, and describes prepaid packs that never expire: 100 credits for $20, 300 for $49 and 1,200 for $149, plus 20 free retouches to start. The Retouch4me homepage also offers 20 images free to try.

New users can try a batch of images free before choosing a plan, as described below.

If you prefer to own a tool outright, Fstoppers notes many individual plugins cost $124, with some of the most popular costing more. Buying the whole suite this way gets expensive, which is why many photographers mix one or two owned plugins with cloud credits.

Security & data

Where your images go depends on the tool. Cloud products such as Apex and the web app upload images for processing, according to Tahquechi, while the standalone plugins run on your own computer, which is why local processing can be slow on older machines. None of our sources describes how long Retouch4me keeps uploaded images or whether they are used to train its models. If you shoot clients who expect privacy, check Retouch4me's privacy policy and client contracts, and use the local plugins for sensitive work.

Retouch4me pros and cons

Pros:

  • Natural results that keep real skin texture
  • Large time savings on repetitive retouching
  • Works inside Photoshop, Lightroom, Capture One and video editors
  • Flexible: buy single plugins or pay per image in the cloud
  • Free tools and free trial images

Cons:

  • Full plugin suite is expensive to own outright
  • Occasional crashes and installation quirks
  • Local processing can be slow on detailed images
  • Cloud tools need a good internet connection
  • Edits are not split onto separate layers in Apex

Who it's for

Retouch4me suits professional and semi-professional portrait, headshot, wedding, beauty and fashion photographers who retouch in volume and want consistent, natural results. Arams adds culling and grouping for high-volume shoots such as weddings.

It is less suited to casual photographers who retouch occasionally, photographers who want fine manual control over every layer, or anyone without a reliable connection who wants to use the cloud tools. Our ratings

Overall: 4/5, because Digital Photography School and Tahquechi found Retouch4me's tools simple, fast to apply and natural-looking, while cost, occasional crashes and slow local processing hold it back.

Retouch4me Cloud Retouch: 4/5, since Honcho describes flexible credit plans with rollover and non-expiring packs, though heavy users still pay per image.
