Nossa avaliação
Durable, simple and independently audited self-custody hardware, held back by closed firmware, no on-card screen and permanent loss if all cards are lost.
Avaliações por produto
- Tangem 2-card set
- Tangem 3-card set
Tangem makes self-custody crypto wallets shaped like a bank card or a ring: you tap them against your phone to approve transactions, and the private keys stay on a secure chip inside. This Tangem review explains how the cards work, what the sets cost, how secure they are according to independent reviewers, and the trade-offs, especially what happens if you lose your cards. In short, Tangem is one of the simplest ways to hold your own keys offline, but its seedless design and closed card firmware come with risks you should understand first.
This review covers the hardware and app only. It is not investment or financial advice. Crypto assets are volatile and you are solely responsible for any losses, including from lost devices or mistakes when sending funds.
Our verdict in brief
Tangem suits people who want a durable, battery-free hardware wallet that is easy to set up and carry, and who will store backup cards safely in separate places. It is less suited to users who want to verify every transaction on the device's own screen, prefer fully open-source firmware, or work mainly from a desktop computer.
How we researched this review
We read six reviews, from Coin Bureau, CryptoSlate, Webopedia, CryptoVantage, Crypto Corner and ECN Execution, and checked Tangem's own site and pricing page. CryptoSlate's review, which scores security, backup, usability and costs, is the most detailed on audits and incidents, so we lean on it for security claims. Several of these sites earn affiliate commissions. We did not test the cards ourselves, and nothing here is a recommendation to buy any cryptocurrency.
How Tangem works
A Tangem wallet is a card (or ring) with an EAL6+ certified secure element made by Samsung, according to Coin Bureau. The chip generates your private keys and signs transactions inside the card, so the keys never leave it. The card has no battery or screen: your phone's NFC powers it when you tap, and the Tangem app on iOS or Android acts as the interface.
Instead of a written recovery phrase, every set contains at least two cards. During setup, the key material is copied to the backup cards, so any card in the set can access the wallet. A seed phrase is optional on newer cards if you prefer the traditional approach, per CryptoSlate, but it creates a backup outside the hardware that you must protect yourself.
Tangem prices
| Model | Price | Warranty |
|---|---|---|
| Tangem 2-card set | $59.90, checked September 9, 2026 (CryptoSlate) | 25-year limited hardware warranty |
| Tangem 3-card set | $69.90, checked September 9, 2026 (CryptoSlate) | 25-year limited hardware warranty |
| Tangem Ring and two cards | $160, checked September 9, 2026 (CryptoSlate) | 25-year limited hardware warranty |
Prices change often and vary by country, so check Tangem's pricing page for your currency. Tangem says you pay once with no subscription, standard shipping is free on orders above $89, and prices exclude local taxes and duties. CryptoSlate stresses that the warranty covers hardware defects, not lost cards, stolen keys or investment losses.
How secure is Tangem?
What the reviewers confirm
The main security claims hold up across sources. Coin Bureau and Webopedia cite the EAL6+ certified chip, and CryptoSlate summarizes an independent audit of Tangem's Android and iOS SDK carried out in November 2025, which raised 12 issues; 10 were confirmed fixed, the other two were low-impact, and nothing reached Critical or High severity.
The trade-offs
There are real limits. The card firmware is closed-source and cannot be updated after manufacture, the app's public code uses proprietary licenses, and there is no screen on the card, so you rely on your phone's display to check what you are signing. CryptoSlate also records a phone-app flaw that Tangem later fixed, and published physical attacks against cards whose firmware cannot receive fixes. Webopedia adds that the wallet only works with NFC-capable phones, not laptops.
The biggest risk: losing your cards
Because the backup set is fixed after setup, lost backup cards cannot be replaced, per CryptoSlate. Coin Bureau puts it bluntly: without a seed phrase, losing every card means losing access for good. Store backup cards in separate, secure locations, and consider the 3-card set if you want an extra spare.
The Tangem app
The free Tangem app shows balances and handles sending, receiving and connecting to apps via WalletConnect. Coin Bureau reports it recognizes 16,000+ tokens across 85+ blockchains. The app also offers swaps and other services run by third parties; these carry their own fees and smart-contract risks, so treat them with the same caution as any other crypto service. Tangem also sells a software-only Mobile Wallet, which keeps keys on the phone and is not the same as the card wallet.
Pros and cons
Pros:
- Battery-free cards that fit in a wallet and survive daily carry
- Keys generated and kept on a certified secure chip
- Simple setup without writing down a seed phrase
- Independent SDK audit with a public summary
- Long limited hardware warranty
Cons:
- Losing all cards without a seed phrase means permanent loss
- Backup set is fixed; lost cards cannot be replaced
- No screen on the card to verify transactions
- Closed, non-updatable card firmware
- Needs an NFC smartphone; no desktop use
Who should use Tangem, and who should skip it
Tangem fits newcomers to self-custody who find seed phrases intimidating, travelers who want a wallet that fits in a card slot, and anyone who values durability and simplicity. If you like compact, well-made gadgets, our Chessnut review and Ultrahuman review cover two more.
Skip it if you want an on-device screen to confirm transactions, insist on fully open-source firmware, manage funds mainly from a desktop, or are not confident you can keep backup cards safe for years.
Alternatives
Coin Bureau compares Tangem with the Ledger Nano X, which offers a richer app ecosystem on mobile and desktop via USB and Bluetooth and broader third-party integrations. Screen-based wallets such as Ledger and Trezor let you check transactions on the device itself, at a higher price and with a seed phrase you must manage.
Our ratings
Overall: 4/5, because Coin Bureau and CryptoSlate found Tangem a durable, simple and independently audited self-custody wallet, while closed firmware, no on-card screen and the permanent-loss risk of a fixed backup set hold it back.
Tangem 2-card set
Tangem 2-card set: 4/5. CryptoSlate shows it as the lowest-cost way into Tangem with a built-in backup, though a third card adds more resilience.
Tangem 3-card set
Tangem 3-card set: 4/5. CryptoSlate notes the extra card only helps if you store it separately, but it reduces the risk of losing access.
FAQ
Is the Tangem wallet safe?
Reviewers rate its security well: keys stay on an EAL6+ certified chip, and an independent SDK audit summarized by CryptoSlate found no Critical or High issues. The main risks are user-side, such as losing all cards, plus closed firmware and no on-card screen.
Is Tangem open source?
Partly. The app code is publicly available under proprietary licenses, but the card firmware is closed and cannot be updated, according to CryptoSlate.
What happens if I lose my Tangem card?
Any remaining card in your set still opens the wallet. Lost backup cards cannot be replaced, and if you lose every card without a seed phrase, the funds are gone for good.
Does Tangem need a battery or charging?
No. The card has no battery; your phone's NFC powers it for each tap.
Can I use Tangem on a computer?
Not directly. Tangem works through its mobile app with NFC, so you need an NFC-capable iPhone or Android phone.
What is the difference between the Tangem card and Ring?
Both store keys on a secure chip and work by tapping your phone. The Ring is a wearable version and is sold in a bundle with two cards at a higher price.
