Volume-based pricing, a free plan with unlimited contacts and multichannel tools; Gmail inbox placement and add-on costs hold it to four.

- Brevo
Brevo is the email marketing platform that used to be called Sendinblue, and it has grown into a broader toolkit for email, SMS, WhatsApp, live chat and a free CRM. Its pitch is simple: pay for the emails you send, not the contacts you store. That makes it unusually cheap for some businesses and less so for others. This Brevo review explains how the pricing really works, what the free plan allows, how deliverability looks in independent testing, and who should choose it over Mailchimp or MailerLite.
Short verdict: Brevo is a strong, budget-friendly choice for small businesses with large contact lists that email them a few times a month, and for anyone who wants email, SMS and a basic CRM in one place. It is less attractive if you send many emails to a small list, if most of your audience uses Gmail, or if you need fast hands-on support on a cheap plan.
What Brevo is
Brevo started life in Paris as Sendinblue and changed its name in May 2023. Compare AI Tools says the company now serves more than 500,000 businesses worldwide and competes directly with Mailchimp, MailerLite and GetResponse. If you remember Sendinblue, it is the same company and the same core product.
Today Brevo is less a pure newsletter tool and more a small-business marketing suite. PCMag describes it as a comprehensive hub with enhanced automation, AI tools, varied templates and strong CRM features, while remaining surprisingly easy to use. Optional SMS and WhatsApp campaigns sit next to email, and a live chat inbox and sales pipeline round out the package.
How Brevo pricing works
The most important thing to understand about Brevo is its pricing model. Most email platforms charge by the number of contacts on your list. Brevo mostly charges by the number of emails you send each month. TheCMO points out that this makes it a cost-effective option when a contact list is growing fast, because storing contacts costs little.
The flip side is that frequent senders pay more as their volume grows. If you email a small list every day, a contact-based tool can work out cheaper. If you email a big list once or twice a month, Brevo is hard to beat.
Pricing
PCMag gives the clearest current breakdown of the paid tiers, including annual billing.
| Plan | Price per month | Limits | Free tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Free, 300 emails per day (Compare AI Tools) | Unlimited contacts, Brevo branding, automation for up to 2,000 contacts | Yes |
| Starter | $9 per month, or $8.08 per month billed annually (PCMag) | 5,000 emails a month, 500 contacts to start, Brevo branding | No |
| Standard | $18 per month, or $16.17 per month billed annually (PCMag) | Adds A/B testing, marketing automation, advanced statistics | No |
| Professional | $499 per month (PCMag) | 150,000 emails, 2 million contacts, 10 seats, priority support | No |
Scaling up. The Starter price climbs with volume. PCMag notes that sliding Starter up to 100,000 emails and 500,000 contacts raises it to $69 per month, or $62.08 per month on an annual plan.
Hidden costs. Free and Starter emails carry Brevo branding. EmailToolTester says removing it costs an extra $12 per month, and extra users on Standard cost $12 per month each. SMS is bought as credits priced by destination country and charged in euros. These add-ons are where a cheap plan can turn into a medium one.
Older figures online. You will find much higher numbers in some reviews. Blogging Wizard lists Starter at $25 per month and the old Business plan at $65 per month, which reflect higher volume tiers or older pricing. Compare AI Tools reports that Brevo restructured its plans in October 2025, renaming Business to Standard and adding Professional, so check the slider on Brevo's pricing page for your own volume.
Cancelling. None of the sources we read describe the cancellation process in detail. Because plans are monthly by default, you can avoid a long commitment by choosing monthly billing until you are sure.
The free plan
Brevo's free plan is one of the more generous in email marketing, with an important catch. EmailToolTester says it includes email templates, automation workflows, unlimited live chat and up to 300 emails per day. There is no cap on how many contacts you store.
The catch is the daily limit. Three hundred emails a day is fine for a small shop sending a weekly note to a few hundred people, but you cannot send a single newsletter to a list of a few thousand on the free plan. EmailToolTester also notes free emails carry Brevo branding and that marketing automation on the free plan covers a maximum of 2,000 contacts.
For testing the product and running transactional emails or small campaigns, the free plan is excellent. For a real newsletter to a growing list, plan on Starter or Standard.
Features worth knowing
Email editor and templates. The drag-and-drop editor is easy to use. Compare AI Tools counts around 40 to 50 templates, against Mailchimp's 130 or more, so you may spend more time designing from scratch.
Automation. Visual workflows handle welcome series, abandoned carts and follow-ups. Advanced features such as web tracking and lead scoring are a highlight on Brevo's paid tiers, and EmailToolTester notes they are available at a price that rivals charge much more for.
SMS, WhatsApp and live chat. Brevo's multichannel tools are a real differentiator. Live chat is available even on the free plan with unlimited chats. EmailToolTester puts the Conversations Pro add-on at $15 per user per month, which it calls competitive.
CRM and AI. A free CRM handles contacts and deals, and the Aura AI assistant helps write emails, summarize chats and suggest send times. These are useful extras for small teams that do not want a separate sales tool.
Integrations. Brevo connects with WordPress, e-commerce platforms and analytics tools. EmailToolTester notes its WordPress plugin has over 80,000 active installations with a 4.5-star rating.
Deliverability
Deliverability is where the evidence is mixed, so it is worth reading carefully. EmailToolTester reports that 99.98% of emails were delivered in under 20 seconds, a measure of speed and reliability.
Reaching the inbox is a different question. Compare AI Tools reports a Gmail inbox rate of around 72%, which it says is 13 points below an industry average of about 85%. If most of your subscribers use Gmail, that is worth testing before you commit, for example by sending to a few seed addresses of your own.
Security & data
Brevo is a European company headquartered in Paris, which shapes how many businesses view it. The sources we read do not detail its compliance certifications or data storage locations, so we cannot confirm specific claims such as where data is hosted. If you handle European contacts, ask Brevo for its data processing agreement and check its privacy documentation before importing your list.
On the account side, Standard and higher plans support separate user logins, so team members do not need to share one password. EmailToolTester notes that without Standard you would share one login across the team, which is a security weakness for any business with more than one person sending email.

Who it's for
Use Brevo if you run a small business with a large or growing contact list that you email a few times a month, you want SMS or WhatsApp alongside email, or you would like a free CRM and live chat without buying separate tools.
Skip Brevo if you send frequent newsletters to a small list, your audience is mostly on Gmail and inbox placement is critical, or you want the largest template library and the most integrations.
Alternatives
| Tool | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Brevo | Large lists emailed occasionally, multichannel | Gmail inbox placement, add-on costs |
| Mailchimp | Biggest template library and integrations | Contact-based pricing gets expensive |
| MailerLite | Simple, clean editor and landing pages | Contact-based pricing, smaller free plan |
| GetResponse | Marketing funnels and webinars | Higher price for advanced features |
Compare AI Tools names MailerLite as the pick for simplicity and GetResponse for funnels and webinars. If you are also choosing SEO tools to grow the traffic that feeds your list, our Semrush review covers a popular option.
Is Brevo worth it?
Yes, for the right sender. If you have many contacts and email them occasionally, Brevo's volume-based pricing and generous free plan can save real money, and the SMS, chat and CRM tools add value most rivals charge extra for. Run a deliverability test to Gmail addresses first, and budget for branding removal and extra users if you need them.
Our ratings
Overall: 4/5, because Brevo offers volume-based pricing, a free plan with unlimited contacts and multichannel tools that PCMag calls easy to use, held back by Gmail inbox placement and add-on costs.
Brevo
Brevo: 4/5. A budget-friendly all-in-one marketing platform for small businesses, with deliverability and add-ons as the weak points, as EmailToolTester documents.
