Notre note
A leak-free, often fast connection with a generous free plan, held back by no independent audit, a partly rented network and contradictory refund terms.

- IceVPN
IceVPN is a young VPN from the company behind Icedrive, the encrypted cloud storage service. It is still new, and best known for two things: a generous free plan and a lifetime deal. This IceVPN review covers who runs it, what the free and paid plans cost, what independent testers found on speed, streaming and leaks, and the privacy questions you should weigh before trusting it with your traffic.
| At a glance | Details |
|---|---|
| Price | From $2.99 per month on the yearly promo (Top Rated VPN) |
| Free tier | 20 GB a month, one device (VPNFin) |
| Devices | Up to 5 on a Pro subscription (IceVPN website) |
| Audit | No independent audit found (State of Surveillance) |
| Biggest downside | Unverified no-logs claim on partly rented servers |
Our verdict in brief
IceVPN is worth trying as a free VPN for light browsing on public Wi-Fi, and its paid plans are cheap. It is not yet a VPN to trust with sensitive activity: its no-logs claim has never been independently audited, much of its network is rented white-label capacity, key features are missing on some platforms, and testers found streaming unreliable. Use the free tier or a single month; avoid the lifetime plan until the service proves itself.
Is IceVPN worth it?
It depends on which plan you are looking at. Free users: yes, it is worth installing for light browsing and public Wi-Fi, since it costs nothing and needs no card. Monthly buyers: a single month is a reasonable, cheap way to test the paid features on your own devices, especially on Windows. Lifetime buyers: not yet. Paying up front for years of a young, unaudited service is a bet we would not make until it publishes an independent audit and fixes its platform gaps.
How we researched this review
Simple Life Reviews did not run our own tests. We read Cloudwards' review, which includes speed, leak and streaming tests, plus analyses from State of Surveillance, Top Rated VPN and VPNFin that check prices, company records and policy documents, and IceVPN's own website. State of Surveillance and VPNFin take affiliate commissions from VPN sign-ups, which they disclose. We ignored listings that repeat marketing claims without testing.
Who runs IceVPN?
State of Surveillance identifies the operator as Ice Privacy LTD, a Gibraltar company incorporated in July 2023, and dates the public launch to January 14, 2025. The same corporate family runs Icedrive. That gives IceVPN a named company with a public address, which is better than many cheap VPNs, but the VPN itself has a short track record.
The bigger structural point is infrastructure. State of Surveillance reports that IceVPN's terms of service call the company an Atom partner that draws on Atom's servers outside its main locations. Atom rents out ready-made VPN capacity for other brands to sell under their own name, so not every server you connect to is run by IceVPN itself. Nothing in our sources gives the split between owned and rented servers.
Pricing
IceVPN's prices have changed several times in a few months, so treat every figure as a snapshot. The table uses the most recent prices our sources recorded from IceVPN's checkout.
| Plan | Price per month | Limits | Free tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Free (VPNFin) | 20 GB a month, three locations, one device | Yes |
| Monthly | $4.99 (Top Rated VPN) | Pro features, five simultaneous connections | No |
| Yearly | $2.99 per month, billed as $35.88 (Top Rated VPN) | Promo price; regular yearly price $59.88 | No |
| Lifetime | $249 one-time (Top Rated VPN) | Listed against a regular price of $398.40 | No |
Top Rated VPN recorded these prices in September 2026 and warns that the yearly plan is likely to renew at the higher regular price of about $4.99 a month. Only two months earlier, Cloudwards listed $8.99 for one month, $4.99 a month on a yearly plan and $3.99 a month over two years, with a 3GB free tier. In other words, the deal you see today may not be the one you renew on.
The lifetime plan deserves caution. At $249, a price Top Rated VPN recorded, it only beats the yearly plan if IceVPN survives and stays good for several years, a large bet on a service under two years old with no audit.
Refunds and the money-back guarantee
The refund terms conflict. State of Surveillance found the marketing page promising a 30-day money-back guarantee, while the binding terms of service describe a 14-day guarantee that can be claimed no more than twice, six months apart, and does not cover app-store or gift-card purchases. Assume the shorter window applies, and request any refund early.
Features and apps
IceVPN
The protocols on offer are WireGuard, OpenVPN and IKEv2/IPsec, and a paid account covers five devices at once. The IceVPN website advertises 256-bit encryption, a kill switch and support for up to 5 devices on a Pro subscription, with free accounts limited to 1 device.
The catch is uneven app support. Top Rated VPN reports that the kill switch and split tunneling exist only on Windows, so macOS users get neither. State of Surveillance found the iOS app still marked as coming soon after more than a year, while VPNFin cites App Store pricing for Pro purchases; check the App Store yourself before paying for an iPhone. Beware of unrelated apps with similar names in the app stores.
IceVPN also offers paid cybersecurity reports on top of the subscription. Cloudwards notes that every report uses a credit, new accounts get 20 credits, and top-ups start at $4.99 for 10.
Speed and streaming
Top Rated VPN summarizes Cloudwards' July 2026 test on a 55 Mbps line: the nearest server kept the full 55 Mbps with no measurable loss, but a distant Singapore server fell to 18 Mbps, and results swung by 30 Mbps between runs. Cloudwards' own conclusion is that IceVPN is often fast nearby, but you cannot predict when it will be.
Streaming is weak. Top Rated VPN counts 3 of 7 reported streaming services working, and VPNFin says State of Surveillance found streaming mostly broken. If unblocking Netflix or other streaming libraries is your main reason for a VPN, choose a provider with a proven track record.
Torrenting
IceVPN's website pitches it for peer-to-peer use, but none of the reviews we read published torrenting results we could rely on. Treat torrenting support as unverified, and remember that without an audit you are trusting IceVPN's own word on what it logs.
Is IceVPN safe? Security & data
IceVPN is safe enough for everyday browsing, since testers found no leaks, but it is not proven safe for sensitive use: its no-logs claim is unaudited, part of its network is rented, and it operates from Gibraltar under a young company.
Cloudwards found no DNS or IPv6 leaks in its tests, which means the basic tunnel does its job. Its criticisms were about policy, not leaks: macOS users cannot pick their own protocol, and the privacy policy raised concerns.
On logging, State of Surveillance reports that IceVPN says it does not log browsing, traffic, bandwidth or activity timestamps, but does keep connection metadata such as a user ID or IP and a connection timestamp, which it says is deleted within 15 minutes after your session ends. No independent auditor has ever checked this. Audited providers publish third-party reports; IceVPN has none, despite mentioning audits in its marketing.
IceVPN is based in Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory. What matters more for you is that the no-logs claim is unverified and part of the network is rented, so treat IceVPN as a tool for everyday privacy on public Wi-Fi, not for anything where exposure could hurt you.
Server network
Network figures conflict. The brand's homepage lists server counts by continent, and State of Surveillance notes that IceVPN's own pages give different country totals. Cloudwards counted 82 locations in 68 countries, with more choice than most VPNs across Africa, South America and the Caribbean, but only one location in Canada. That makes IceVPN unusually useful in some underserved regions and thin in others.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Generous free plan with no card required
- Low monthly and yearly prices
- No DNS or IP address leaks in testing
- Better than usual server choice in Africa and South America
- Run by a named company in the Icedrive family
Cons
- No independent no-logs audit
- Partly rented white-label server network
- Kill switch and split tunneling only on Windows
- Unreliable streaming and inconsistent speeds at distance
- Conflicting refund terms and frequently changing prices
Who it's for
Use IceVPN if you want a free VPN for light browsing and public Wi-Fi, you mostly use Windows, or you need a server in a region bigger VPNs cover poorly. A single paid month is a cheap way to test it.
Skip it if you need verified privacy for journalism, activism or sensitive work, rely on streaming, use a Mac or iPhone as your main device, or are tempted by the lifetime plan. An audited provider is the better bet for all of these.
Alternatives
State of Surveillance points to audited providers such as Mullvad, IVPN and Proton VPN for anyone who needs verified no-logs, and Cloudwards names Surfshark as a cheaper long-term option.
| VPN | Independent audit | Streaming | Platform gaps | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| IceVPN | None found | Unreliable in reported tests | Kill switch and split tunneling on Windows only | From $2.99 per month on the yearly promo (Top Rated VPN) |
| Mullvad | Publishes third-party reports | Not covered by our sources | Not covered by our sources | Not stated (State of Surveillance) |
| Proton VPN | Publishes third-party reports | Not covered by our sources | Not covered by our sources | Not stated (State of Surveillance) |
| Surfshark | Not covered by our sources | Not covered by our sources | Described as a more mature product | $1.99 per month on a two-year plan (Cloudwards) |
Our ratings
Overall: 3/5, because Cloudwards found a leak-free, often fast connection and VPNFin highlights a generous free plan, while State of Surveillance documents no audit, a partly rented network and contradictory refund terms.
IceVPN: 3/5, because the plans listed by Top Rated VPN are cheap and the free tier is useful, but platform gaps, inconsistent speeds and unverified privacy claims keep it from being a safe recommendation for paid long-term use.
FAQ
Is IceVPN legit or a scam?
It is a legitimate service run by a Gibraltar company in the Icedrive family, and testers found its tunnel leak-free. It is young and unaudited, though, so treat its privacy claims with caution.
Is IceVPN free?
Yes. The free plan offers a monthly data allowance, a few locations and one device, with no card required. Paid plans remove the data cap and add more locations and devices.
Does IceVPN keep logs?
It says it does not log browsing or traffic, but it keeps short-lived connection metadata that it says is deleted soon after each session. No independent audit has confirmed any of this.
Is IceVPN audited?
No. Its marketing mentions audits, but reviewers found no named auditor and no published report.
How much is IceVPN Pro?
Pro is available monthly, yearly and as a one-time lifetime plan; see the pricing table above for the latest recorded prices. Prices have changed often, so confirm at checkout and expect a yearly promo to renew at the regular price.
Can IceVPN unblock Netflix?
Not reliably. Reviewers found streaming mostly broken, with only a minority of services working, so choose a streaming-focused VPN if that matters.
Who should choose IceVPN?
People who want a free or very cheap VPN for everyday browsing and public Wi-Fi, especially on Windows. Anyone who needs audited privacy or dependable streaming should look elsewhere.
